Cannon Receives Professionalism Award

CHEYENNE – The Wyoming State Bar is pleased to announce that Kim D. Cannon, an attorney from Sheridan, is this year’s recipient of the Gerald R. Mason Professionalism Award. The award was presented at this year’s Annual Meeting & Judicial Conference, which took place last week at Snow King Resort in Jackson, Wyoming.
This is the fifth annual Gerald R. Mason Professionalism Award, which was presented by Wyoming State Bar President, Bradley D. Bonner.
This award is given to a Wyoming attorney who, over the course of his or her career, has embodied the spirit of Wyoming State Bar Past President, Gerald R. Mason’s phrase “Proud to Be a Wyoming Lawyer,” and who serves as an example to others by having the highest professionalism standards to which all members of the Wyoming State Bar should aspire.
Over his career, Cannon has distinguished himself as an extraordinary trial lawyer and advocate for his clients while continuously earning the respect and admiration of his peers, including opposing counsel. Cannon has served as an exceptional mentor to hundreds of Wyoming lawyers through his skill, care, attention and professionalism.
Cannon received his A.B. degree from Dartmouth College, cum laude in 1970, and his J.D. from the University of Colorado in 1974. He joined the firm of Burgess & Davis out of law school and became a partner in 1980. Concentrating on complex litigation, Kim has represented clients throughout Wyoming in a wide variety of cases from natural resources, commercial, construction, employment, personal injury, products liability, professional malpractice, securities and significant asset divorce litigation. Kim is an active member of the Sheridan County Bar (President, 1982), the Wyoming State Bar (Civil Pattern Jury Instructions and Continuing Legal Education Committees), and the American Bar Association (Litigation Section). He served as a member and chairman of the Wyoming Environmental Quality Council (1992-1996) and the Wyoming Commission on Judicial Conduct and Ethics (1997-2003).
Additionally, he has served as a Vice President of the Dartmouth Lawyers Association (1997-present) and a board member of the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association (2004-2006). As one of the firm’s four “AV” rated attorneys by Martindale-Hubbell, he has also been a long-standing selection in Best Lawyers in America (personal injury), in Mountain States Super Lawyers and Who’s Who in American Law. Mr. Cannon was inducted as a Fellow, International Academy of Trial Lawyers, in 2007.
