Amendments to Rules of Professional Conduct & Rules of Disciplinary Procedure
The Wyoming Supreme Court has issued orders amending the Rules of Professional Conduct as well as the Rules of Disciplinary Procedure. The effective date for the amendments is September 1, 2019.
The amendments to the Rules of Professional Conduct include adoption of a new Rule 1.15A regarding client file retention and significant changes to the advertising rules (WRPC 7.1 through 7.5) to mirror those that were recently adopted for the comparable ABA Model Rules. Two less significant changes, one to correct a typographical error in Rule 1.5(e) and the other to change the beneficiary of unclaimed trust account funds in Rule 1.15(j), were made as well.
The amendments to the Rules of Disciplinary Procedure affect confidentiality of attorney disciplinary proceedings and the composition of hearing panels of the Board of Professional Responsibility.
Thank you to those members who took the time to provide valuable feedback during the member comment period!
Questions regarding the amendments may be directed to Mark Gifford, Bar Counsel, at (307) 432-2106.
